The IYC Digital Exhibit

PURPOSE

I joined the Indianapolis Youth Chorale in the fall of 2014 and remained a part of the choir until my graduation in the spring of 2018.

This was a time of transition for IYC and its parent organization, the Indianapolis Children’s Choir. IYC lost its longtime director Cheryl West in 2014- I had only one rehearsal with her before her passing. Directors Mary Evers and Henry Leck- the founder of the Indianapolis Children’s Choir- subsequently took the helm as co-directors until 2016, when Mr. Leck retired. That spring, Mr. Leck passed the role of sole IYC director onto Mrs. Evers and the role of ICC Artistic Director onto Joshua Pedde, marking the beginning of an era of organization-wide transition that continues to this day. In 2019, only a year after my graduation, the Indianapolis Youth Chorale and ICC women’s ensemble Bella Voce were abolished and reimagined as the singular Master Chorale.

Amidst the many major ups, downs, and changes that hallmarked my time in the Indianapolis Youth Chorale, I sang alongside 250+ fellow students from the greater Indianapolis area. Together, we forged irreplaceable bonds and made unforgettable memories. This digital exhibit aims to provide those students- the final members of the Indianapolis Youth Chorale- with a way to fondly reminisce on their time in IYC and see where their peers have ended up in the years since graduation.
